Questions or comments?

Here is a brief list of all the places where technology is used/found at this school (accounting, personnel, maintenance, purchasing, grading, communication, student information, curriculum, website, teacher sites, presentations, auditoriums, SEP, email, document storage, telephones, voicemail, bells, network, internet, teacher computers, computer labs, libraries, etc.).

The Information Technology Department staff at ASFM consists of a Director, a Tech Support Manager, a Network Administrator, two HelpDesk personnel, and three Tech Support Personnel. Seven full-time computer teachers, working in the two campuses teach computer classes and provide academic technology support for other teachers.

Over 550 networked desktop computers and laptops are available in classrooms, computer labs, libraries, and offices. All computers form part of a network that spans both campuses.

Technology use for students begins in Prekinder. Starting at the third grade, students have individual network accounts that come with a "home directory," a space on a server that makes it possible for students and faculty to easily save and retrieve their files from any computer in the ASFM network.

Staff attend inservice sessions on a variety of technology related topics throughout the academic year.

If you want to teach people a new way of thinking, don't bother trying to teach them. Instead give them a tool, the use of which will lead to new kinds of thinking.

Vision for Technology at ASFM

ASFM uses technology as a tool to enhance learning across the curriculum.  Our school seeks to be an innovative leader, empowering students and teachers through progressive access to technology.   Our aim is to develop responsible global citizens equipped with the critical thinking skills and technological literacy necessary to participate in the worldwide community of learners.

The following guiding principles are intended to help us realize our vision:

    • Fiscal responsibility and thorough research, related to future trends and best practices, should guide the acquisition, use and development of quality technology resources which should be accessible to staff and students.
    • Technology expectations for students and staff should be supported by curricula and ongoing staff development as well as technical support that are readily available and reliable.
    • The integration of technology into our daily practices should enhance teaching and learning.
    • Technology should be both integrated and explicitly taught according to developmental stages of our students.
    • Our use of technology should provide opportunities for students to communicate with the worldwide community of learners.
